Added some minor updates to this, for newer GIMP versions. Also changed formatting a little to accomodate for the new forum software.

Your paintings are amazing. My attempt. I had to do it fast, so it's not very good.

@Bigbase
Looking forward to you trying!

@caasi
You have given a correctly formatted image link, but the link itself seems to be dead: http://www.blinkytag.com/oie/temp/uploa ... /hand2.jpg gives a "404 not found" error. :(

Sorry, didn't notice this sooner. It's a bit hard to see details since you only supplied the thumbnail and not made it clickable, but at first glance it looks ok. Possibly the fingers are somewhat short, but it's hard to tell, people's hands look very different. I think I can also make out some "unsharpness" along the edges of the hand, you could maybe consider tweaking that more with the eraser tool.
That said, the colours look fine and you have some good lines going in the palm of the hand as well. This is a rather tricky tutorial, thanks for trying it out! Putting this up in the "hall of fame"!

Ive never imagined drawing a hand like that, nice tutorial. I have a sore arm, its really not likening the smooth tool :) Speaking of smoothing I had trouble getting the dark color to be stretched, it seemed only the lights colors were moving no matter how many times I stroke the screen with the tool. So I ended up with the airbrush to do dark lines and then smoothing the colors around them into it. I don't know if its because of my color choice - I think it is.

My shot at it, I admit I gave up on the last part with shadows, and the colors are way off, rather zombie like:

@Garfi

You are really wading through my tutorials, aren't you? :mrgreen:

The hand looks good overall. It has very long fingers, but people have very different hands, so it's quite possible you simple have a narrow hand with long fingers. As you yourself noted the colouring is very pale considering there are blood flowing under the thin layer of skin; this is indeed a rather "dead" hand, colour-wise. But the structure of the skin as well as the shadowing works really well I think, looks good and realistic!

The smooth tool is a tricky one. Playing with the opacity of this tool is the key to making it work right. Depending on the size of your brush and the contrast between your dark line and surrounding areas, you can tend to "pull" more of the surrouding areas than the dark line you want to pull. Easiest way around this is to make sure you begin your stroke solely inside the dark line without pulling too much of the surrounding areas along. Do this by zooming in as far as you need and by scaling down your brush until it can conveniently be applied and dragged out of the dark line alone.

Putting it up in the first post. Nice job and thanks for trying the tutorial!

@keaglez

Thanks for trying out the tutorial. It's a decent hand there, I really like the senewy structures of the wrist, looks very realistic. It's hard to critique a hand like this since every person's hand can look very different. Your hand is quite long and also few people have such a square front of the hand; usually the part of the hand where fingers connect is somewhat sloped down towards the little finger. But as said, your hand could well look like that, it's just something to check.

Good job, if you can supply me with a thumbnail of it I'll be glad to put it in the hall of fame. :-)

@AtomixPC

A fine hand! I really like that you have went with a bit of perspective with it. Also the self-shadowing on the index finger really adds an extra touch of realism. I don't have much critique to offer on this, it's a really good-looking hand. Possibly you can play around with the colours a little, to add a touch more yellow to the skin tone, the hand looks somewhat "cold" at the moment.
Very good job with this, goes into the hall of fame. :-)

@JapJap

That's a scary hand! Would work fine for a zombie movie. :) Nothing wrong with that of course, but for a human hand you might consider using more red in your palette, the hand does seem a bit more "dead" than it should. You have picked a very difficult angle and position of your hand, so you did very well with it, especially if you haven't done anything similar before. There is however something strange in how the hand is bent, you need to add more skin folds along the wrist to show where the arm ends and the hand begins I think.

Good job with this! Thanks for trying out the tutorial, this kind of practice is useful for all sorts of paintings.

@SusanE

That's a very good hand. I especially like how you have worked in the levels of brighter colour in a "fuzzy" way, giving it further impression of detail and structure in the skin. Possibly the contrasts and wrinkles become a little too much here and there, but that is of course dependent on the lighting so it's not really a criticism. Good job with this. If you supply me with a smaller-size thumbnail of your work I'll gladly put it up in the hall of fame up top. :)

Thank you for your pointers on my project. I had the same feeling when I finished, but didn't know how to fix it (then).

Here is a thumbnail:
