Follow steps:

Start gimp
Go through menus Xtns > Scrupt-Fu > Logos and click menu item Shrek Text, as shown below the note

NOTE : If you cant find menu Shrek Text in said place, that means your copy of gimp does not contain a script shrek.scm file. You can download this file BY CLICKING HERE from the gimp.org plugin registery, and put it in /share/gimp/2.0/scripts, and restart the gimp.

After clicking this menu a new window will appear, where you have to enter the information about your final plastic text, as shwn here:

Posted Image

After entering desired text, selecting font, height, and color, click OK, you will notice the gimp will process for a while and create new document containing your plastic text, as shown here:

Posted Image

Now within above shown image window go through menus
Script-Fu > Shadow and click Drop-Shadow
which will bring you a new window asking you some inforamtion about new shadow to be created, simply click OK, as shown here:

Now go to Layers tab and drag the layer named Drop-Shadow to the position over the last Layer named Background, so that layers' presentation is as shown below:

TIP: if you want to have this image transparent and you wish to reuse it within other applications like swish, I suggest you exporting it as PNG (Portable Network Graphics) image format, so that the transparency and colors are not disturbed.

Final image without background will look somhow like this:

Thanks Ali

No I run my IRC through stormdancing.net.. do you need an IRC server?
WxChat.com is a weather discussion and learning site. I also hold contest on this site with real prizes. Right now we are in the middle of Virtual Chase.. a storm chasing contest and the prize is an ETREX hand held GPS (about $150 USD in value)

Welcome to gimptalk goreckstar!

Open your signature file in gimp then use menus File > Open as Layer and select the plastic text fil to open,
Which will open the plastic text file as new layer in your already opened file.

I took it one step further by adding a white drop shadow above the text.
