Well, I've been looking through some different ways of blending text, and I've come to something, that I think, is pretty good.

Before you start though, you should take a look at these menu options, cause you'll be using them.

I present to you, one of the first text blending tutorials for GIMP!

I think maybe it needs some editing. Once I find a better sig to put the text in, I'll redo the examples.

Well, changing and messing around with pretty much the same thing. Besides, it will be messy when you first try changing settings, unless you really really really know what your doing. Took me about 50 tries to get what I got. : /

I'll redo the whole thing I think. Same steps, but different background, and different example image., it does look a bit funky to read.

I'll post when it's back up.

mm.. sounds good

now figured out what you really meant with the ''mess around'', first thought you meant to like.. thrown just loads off stuff all around (in gimpy)
i think the picture was good, just would have been better to fit the small text

i think you could add more ways off blending the text as that one, for example, 2px black outline to left and up, 2 px white outline to right and down, with the background as the text

copy background layer, make a text layer (full screen it) select alpha, invert and cut out off one of the background layers
then add the white and black texts on sides of BG-text

it's back up, with some modifications. Should be easier to read, and to see the result.

"[image]" Doesn't mean the list drop down. It means that the following should be selected from inside the image, not from the main gimp window.
I attached a screenshot at the top of the thread where all the options are.

We could speculate about things like that all day, but I'm telling you now, and I didn't earlier. Live with it.

2 quick comments...

Are the layer effects scripts provided with Gimp by default?

I know you warned 56k users, but 1.7MB is probably a bit large for a forum post image. Parts like the menus and dialog boxes could certainly be shrunk down quite a bit and sections typed out instead of included in the image. At the moment it is quite an imposing image and has a lot of unused space which really doesn't need to be there.

It's good presentation, but not really that accessible.

As for your first question, yes, the effects come premade in GIMP. Or, they did for me at least.

As for the second, I think you're wrong there. Ask yourself what's easier, 20 different images, that will have to be downloaded, with text in between them, or just one image, that includes everthing you need, so that you could even save it, and use it without the internet? I can remove the flashy background if you all want me too, but the image stays. Go to gamerenders.com , and you'll see that there a are a lot of tutorials like this, so if you ever plan on using them, I'd get used to this type of tutorial now, cause they won't edit them into 20 different pics either.

I like your stuff Blinkz, but, did you use the drop shadow, or inner shadow? I find that a certain amount of depth really helps the text. Otherwise, it looks mostly like a bumpmap.

na.. only used 3 layers which i blurred with 1, faster than your blending way, and looks about same, your bit better but.. you get quality with time :h:

i mostly dont use the scripts, thats why i did it this way.. i could however place it like white/black/background but im not sure if it gets how i want it

maybe looks like bumpmap because changed position of the background text so it would come out more better

and ye.. defineatly like that one image better than having loads off images to upload, and makes it even more fun to use it
