It's not working for me

Well you see I have been trying to just get the brushes to work right but for some reason when I go to put the files in the correct area and when I go to the gimp none of the brushes are there. I followed everything on how to install them so I don't know why it is not working.
Here are the steps I did:
Download the brushes.
Open the download and extract the files to both places. Here C:\Documents and Settings\John\.gimp-2.2\brushes and here C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\brushes
I go back and load up the gimp and no brushes.

Yup I did all of that. And now I'm going to download the brushes again. And now after I extracted them they are all ABR files
Nevermind they're Photoshop and those thing not GIMP
And don't make fun of me for being such a newb

umm i still need help.... I moved the folders but GIMP wouldent
let me use the brushes i dowloaded...... Sorrry i still need help.... if anyone wants to contact me or reply?

what means you move the folders?
You don't need to move folders just to go in toolkit menu\preferences\folder\brush and use the search botton
(labeled as "..." :a:) to locate your new brush folders...that is the better way to do it!
You can add or temporany remove from there how much folder you need

No, you don't need Ububntu. Ubuntu is Linux, and operating system (like Microsoft Windows, which I assume is what you are using).
As for making things "File>Open>Load". It doesn't work that way. Hate to say it, but you are actually gonna have to learn how to navigate your filesystem...how to actually USE your computer.
And finding your brushes folder isn't gonna be that hard. When gimp opens, you have usually three windows that open up. The main toolbox window (the one that has all the icons for things like brushes, selections, etc.), the canvas window (where your image actually is), and a dialog for things like layers, channels, etc.
In the main toolbox window (NOT the canvas window) Do File>Preferences. A dialog pops up. In the left pane of that dialog, down at the bottom, is a little triangular arrow (or in Windows, possibly a plus sign), next to the word "Folders". If you click that little arrow/plus symbol, it will "expand" into a list. One of the items in that list will say "Brushes". Click on that.
In the right hand pane will be the path to your brush folder. There may be more than one. All you have to do is to put the brushes in that folder. It's that simple. To do that, use windows explorer (NOT Internet Explorer...to get a Windows Explorer window, right click on the "My Computer" Icon on your desktop and then click on "Explore". If you are unzipping the folder with something like Winzip, then tell it to unzip the contents into that folder.

The above is a link to the Gimp Doc page about how to use the Preferences dialog. It has info on the folders option as well as the brushes folder, with pictures. You will have to do some scrolling, as it covers a number of areas unrelated to brushes, but the info you want is there.
