If you are in Linux (at least in ubuntu/debian) go to your home folder, From there press Ctrl+H (view hidden files) then there should be folder .gimp or .gimp-2.2, something along those lines. In it is a folder brushes. Put the brushes in there and your done. I'm kind of posting this for Linux people and possibly for Shadowgaara.

P.S. Hey! My first post and It's actually something useful.

You found the folder marked gimp brushes-did you extract a folder inside it?
Try putting in just the files themselves, that's what I do-no folders inside GIMP brushes folder...if not...hm...

I've been using gimp for nearly a year now, although my understanding of it is pathetic comparted to a lot of the people on this forum! I'm not a computer geek by any strech of the imagination, and really the only reason I have gimp is because I can't afford photoshop. That said, I do really like it. (I'm using 2.2.7 at the moment)

Anyway, I've been frequenting this site for ages, just to see what I can learn, and you guys have helped me out a lot. Especially this one. You made it so simple and straightforward, even I could understand it!

Now I can use those brushes I downloaded from deviant! Muchas gracias!!

I don't know what happened, but when I installed some new brushes onto my Gimp, I deleted all of the default ones that came with it. Do you know why this is, and how I can get them back? Also, when I add brushes that are really big, should I resize them, or keep them as they are?

I can't figure this out. I have my brushes pulled up but don't know where the GIMP brushes folder is. Could someone tell me? I am a newb to this. I'm not afraid to admit the real truth.

Just follow the path, by clicking each folder as you go... or copy and paste this into you address bar.

C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\brushes
