I'm having trouble adding brushes now. Everytime I add new high-quality brushes I downloaded GIMP won't start?

I went searching for the folder for the gimp brushes, and it wasn't anywhere! I resorted to a general search, and came up with the downloaded brush file folder only. I am on a mac, and therefore this tutorial may not completely apply to my problem. If anyone with a Mac and GIMP can help me that would rock...

Just follow the path, by clicking each folder as you go... or copy and paste this into you address bar.

C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\brushes

whats the password?

What you wrote made no sense.

Gimp 2.6 has a different path to user brushes, and if you are prompt for a password then it's likely you need to ask the computers administrator for assistance?

Please don't misunderstand me, it's just that you did not ask your question very clearly.

So you are running on Windows XP, Vista, Mac or linux? This guide and thread covers a few Operating Systems and they have there differences.

Personally I'm in love with Ubuntu 8.10. :)

What operating system are you using? It makes a big difference.

The steps are simple, try to re-trace the steps you took and share them please. Often it's the simple stuff that gets so hard. :) After that the hard gets easy! ;)

Well, not sure if this problem has been posted before, but here it is:

I have downloaded a set of brushes from deviantart, and for some reason they didn't need extracting. I got on GIMP and they were there. Actually, they might have been the default ones - are the brushes vine, pepper and dunes on GIMP to start with?

So I went to download some more, downloaded them to >share>gimp>2.0>brushes (which was where I downloaded the others) and downloaded them. But when I opened the folder after the download, there were no extra files. No ZIPS, no .gih's, nothing apart from the ones that were on there (peppers, vine etc)

So for some reason my downloaded files won't appear in the folder I downloaded them to. (I have 'Show hidden folders and files' on). Please can somebody help?

Thanks

@Banega: Yes, the vine, pepper and dunes brushes are already default in GIMP.
But the other brushes, I don't fully understand the problem. Can you expand? So the downloaded folder was empty? If so, I wouldn't know why, sorry. =(

No, the folder isn't empty, it is full of the default brushes. Just the three brushes I've downloaded haven't appeared in that folder for some reason.

Don't worry - I've sorted it :D

I had to click on Compatibility Files at the top of the screen, which showed me the ZIPs

Thanks for trying to help, but it's sorted now :D
