Okay so I am just absolutely confused!!!
Could someone be oh-so kind as to explain this to me?
I'm using a Linux.
Like when I download brushes and try saving them the brushes go onto my Desktop (I can't change where they're transferred to when I save them). Also, how the heck do I extract and add files onto my preference page?
Please help!

What was said was that you should move the files from whatever archive you got it from into the place where GIMP looks for brushes. You can find which folder this is (and adding new ones if you want) by opening the GIMP preferences and the "Folders" sub menu.
Moving brushes into this folder is a basic Windows copy&paste operation and has nothing to do with GIMP. GIMP only grabs all brushes it can find in that directory. Have you looked in the folder and made sure your things you think you added are really in there? If so, are you sure the brushes you added are really GIMP brushes? PS brushes won't work (by default).

Have you tried to click "Browse for other folders" in the save dialogue and pick another one than "Desktop" ...?
Not sure what you mean about saving "files" to your preferences, but if you want to change the content folders, go the the "Folders" submenu in Preferences. Here you can add new folders to hold various things like new brushes and so on -- you can have more than the original ones if you want. Of course you must remember where on the system those folders are, so you can save your things to them later. That is not done directly from the preferences.

There is a brush folder for Gimp Portable, can't remember the exact path. On the other hand, I have had the portable version do some wierd stuff with brushes, so maybe there is a bug somewhere.

well do you have ready a folder with the brush you want install, ALREADY UNZIPPED?
If not create one anywhere handy(on your usb drive if you use the portable version)...then just load gimp, go in FILE/Preference/folder/brush CLICK NEW FOLDER icon first, and then search that folder clicking on that "..." button...and click okay
then reload or renfresh brush

When I click it then press ok then nothing happens am I doing it right?

and since there is no way to arrange brush for category i believe that 1100 brushes are far beyond that limit
Anyway they should show up...in alphabetic order, and the brush names may be different then that used for the pack (so even if in alphabetic order, they may be ordered in a different way then aspected
