it's the fading box in the tool window that first pops up near your different brushes in between your paint bucket and your pencil. you drag your line from one side of the selected area you want colored to the other side in the direction you want colored.. hope this helped.. no worries I had to search for it too.

Hello, I am not sure if this thread is still active but i am posting anyway! I found this tutorial (combined with the rest of the thread) quite useful!

That is a very common problem I bet! On the top toolbar of the image (not the toolbox toolbar) select "Dialogs" > "Layers" and a little window should pop-up with all of the layers and their names. Above the frame that has all of the layers in it, there is a drop-down box (usually set at normal) with many choices. "Difference" is among them. I hope this helps to clear up some confusion.

thanks I found it.. now if only my gimp worked right I'd be golden.. I think I broke something when I downloaded it.. my computer keeps slipping on and off line whenever it feels the whim.

Great tutorial, instead of solid noise, you think you can use Gradients set to difference, and then just clicking all over the image? I did that for an interesting effect. But it isn't working out for some reason!

Great tutorial! I made a few bolts, used color to alpha, and kept my black background.

Ok, I made some lightning. How do you make the black area around it transparent so you can apply the effect to another image?

Lol..I hate the chidori...and Sasuke...>_> And It works fine on Chidori for me O-o (buwahaha I was animating chidori then adding text saying "Darn that thing to heck." )
