Here is my version, i didnt use the blurr because of the ppl in it but other than that i am happy with the outcome, great tutorial, i will prolly try it again but with different effects.

Really neat technique. I think I should have experimented more with the blending modes and color levels for my particular stock, but I pretty much followed your settings exactly for this outcome. I just had to add another light source because one corner ended up too dark.

When I try to do the Layer>Color>Desaturate thing, I can't find color when I click layer! Can someone help me?

Make sure you have your layer selected, and then just go to Colors > Desaturate. :) I created this tutorial a few years ago, before the new GIMP which has changed some things. Hope this helps.
