I know this tutorial is older, but it's a good one. I learned a few things about making a better background, lighting, and a few effects.

The gradient map gives it a weird bluish tone - not sure if I like it.
I'm sure I could have used a red color instead of the blue in the tutorial, but I wasn't sure how it would turn out.

I like the end result :D

Your render is too big, you can hardly see the background. Plus, it's a little blurry.
