My First Tutorial - Blending Images in GIMP
#42

[line]
STEP 1 - Opened my #1 main background file. (The screenshots below show the setup of main background image and layer palatte.

[line]
STEP 2 - Created a new layer (named it inkpenimage) and set its attributes (height and width numbers both are same as #1 main background file) and background mode to transparency.

[line]
STEP 3 - Opened the ink pen image as stand alone image and its layer palatte.

[line]
STEP 4 - Used the free select (lasso) tool to enclose about the ink pen area. To smoothe the crooked line about it, I did the following actions; move my cursor mouse to menus, selection / feather / set it to 25 then ok.

[line]
STEP 5 - Used the rotate tool to move the selected pen image to horizon level (note: I just noticed that while doing the rotate thing the layout palatte inserted a new layer called floating layout. I have screenshot of it below here.)

[line]
STEP 6 - Cutted the selected pen image and pasted it into the #1 main background (Note: The layer palatte also included the floating layer. I have a screenshot of it below here.) Merged both ink pen image and transparency image into one layer, set its mode to value .. the result:

It doesn't look like a fully blended image though. Did I do something wrong? Help me out if you can. Thanks!

You need to "ADD" the inkpen image as a layer above your background image, rather than working on them in 2 separate documents.
There are a number of ways to do this, but I'll give you one for now.
Go to the File Menu at the top left-hand corner of the image window and select "Open as Layer.
Also, if it doesn't blend well enough for you, try increasing the feather amount or getting closer to the pen with your lasso tool, or just keep hitting Ctrl-K until it looks good to you.
Now go through all your steps and see how it works for you.
Let me know how you came out.

When that window opens up....choose Interface | Configure Keyboard Shortcuts. You can change your keyboard shortcuts there. Sounds like the default settings must have gotten switched somehow.

I don't know what the pic is showing, but it sounds like your keyboard settings have been changed. This has happened to a couple of people also.
Under GIMP preferences....choose Interface | Configure Keyboard Shortcuts. You can change your keyboard shortcuts there.

xxRupertismyKing I think that the problem is is that you need to anchor your floating image onto a new layer, I usually just click the new layer button and the pasted anchors instantly :l: Then the Lasso tool should work for you.
Hope this is helpful to you both!

"ctrl = control + I" is the shortcut for inverting the selection and can also be found in the menu path "selection/invert" and "ctrl + K" is the shortcut for clear and can be found in the menupath "edit/clear".
You might have to enable the shortcuts, I cant remimber but you can do that this
From the Gimp main tool box window select file then preferences and you get the prefs window... goto the tad that says interface and find the box with "Use dynamic keyboard shortcuts" and check it and then click "ok" and they should work now... if not close and restart the gimp...
Hope this helps! :l:

As for image blending as you described I dont think that has been cover her but the basics would be to match brightness and contrast ect. till the images look close then you would need to feather the seams.
