GALVANIZED METAL.

1. Do Filters>Render>Clouds>Plasma Jack the turbulence all the way up. If you want to, click "New Seed."

2. Do Layer>Colors>Desaturate.

3. Galvanized metal isn't gonna have any really dark stuff in it. So, if your noise has some really dark areas, the do select by color and click on them. Then do Layer>Colors>Brightness and Contrast. Jack up the brightness and decrease the contrasts. Cancel the selection.

3. Do Filters>Noise>Slur. I set randomness to 17 (but play with this setting to see what else you get) and repeat to 10. You can do new seed if you want. Rotate the layer 90 degrees and do it again.

4. Do Filters>Artistic>Oilify. Set tile size to 9. I did this on a 300x300 canvas. You might need to adjust the settings up or down for a different size canvas.

Thats it, you now have basic galvanized metal...However, from here you can create some interesting variations. Just playing with the Levels or the Curves will give you different qualities.

I also discovered somthinng else when doing this, but I think it will take another tute. However, if you duplicate the layer, and start playing with other filters and effects as well as layer modes, you get some interesting stuff. Try duping the layer and doing Filters>Edge Detect on the dupe, then start messing around with the layer modes....

Usually something like steel that has been dipped...in either tin or zinc...never can rember which...to keep it from rusting. You see it in metal buckets, steel fence posts, etc.
