I found a cool tut on making broken glass images.Unfotunately,I believe it's in portuguese. You'll hyave to use a translator with it.(unless you know portuguese!lol)

http://www.gimp.com.br/tutoriais/vidro_quebrado/

I don't know if this works, but i'll try this translated link as well.

Ok guys I translated this for all of you the best that I could......I'm fairly possitive that this is correct but I didn't have time yet to try it and see if it works how I translated it. Hopefully someone or people can try it out to see how it is

Part 1
-Open any image.

Part 2
-Creates another clear layer, design lines as shown below. Change the name of this layer to "lines" - To design straight lines, with the brush, click in a
point of the screen and press the shift key

Part 3
- Create a white layer.
- Duplicate the layer "lines" and position the copy on the white layer.
- Merge the duplicated "lines" layer with the white layer

Part 4
- With the "Bucket" tool, fill the spaces with tones of gray.
- Hairpiece the screen Filters => Blur=> Gaussian Blur (h=3, v=3).
- Change the name of the layer to "gray"

Part 5
- In the layer "Image", hairpiece the screen: Filters=> Map => Displace (x=30, y=30), use the layer "gray" as the map layer

Part 6
- Organize the layers as shown below.
- Change the mode of the layers "lines" and "gray" to "divide".
- Change the opacity of the layer "lines" and "gray" to 35.

I just re-read the translated version billabongpnkrckr posted! Almost spit Mtn. Dew on the monitor screen after reading/laughing how babelfish translated a couple of the steps. Still looking for the "hairpiece" filter. If anyone knows how I can use the hairpiece tool, I would appreciate it! :w:

This is way off-topic, but I think the next time I do a tutorial, I'm gonna throw in a "wall lamp" or "hairpiece" filter reference just for grins! :w:

Broken Santa.

Since I'm a lazy b@$tard, I used GIMP's Mosaic filter to create the triangular lines, but pretty much did the above (well, with a few embellishments). Used this image from the Free Photos Index. :)

Image

Edit:

Also decided to Mugl it up a bit (Mathmap Mugl preset). :)
