OK here is what you need to do to get the full effect!

Download this...

http://webpages.charter.net/shortspine/HOME/ThemePackage.zip

[NOTE]EDITED updated pack on the developer's page http://members.lycos.co.uk/alexv6/[/NOTE]

This text instruction is included in the download also!

[*] 1 First I want you to put the "gtk2_prefs.exe" into your GTK bin folder... Mine Bin is located here.

"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\GTK\\2.0\\bin"

[*] 2. Now I want you to add the engines I provided to your engines folder, mine engines folder is located here...

"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\GTK\\2.0\\lib\\gtk-2.0\\2.4.0\\engines"

[*] 3 Now if you want some of the really cool themes then I want you to add the themes I sent to the theme folder of your GTK, Mine is located here...

"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\GTK\\2.0\\share\\themes"

[*] Now to use the Themes go back to the Bin folder and double click the "gtk2_prefs" and youll get the window, for some reason I had to pick one of the themes and click ok and them re~open the "gtk2_prefs" for the full effects to show, you might have to also so if you dont see all the effets try that.

If this doesnt work for you Im really at a loss! I succesfully did this 5 times and got the same results starting from scratch each time so... Fingers crossed!

More themes can be found at these two places and probly more.

http://themes.freshmeat.net/browse/958/

Quote:

btw members, if you see an error like 'assertion failed - shape.c'
simply reinstall the gtk, everything is fixed and you get almost all the themes working perfectly.

Quote from Ali.

Edited for a better way! Lol

Unfortunitly I'm only a window user and dont know enough about Linux.

However I can tell you the key word to search is "GTK Theme Engine for Linux" doing a quick search on google I got 624,000 topics! I think that there is actually more available for Linux, dont "quote" me on that! Lol :l:

I'd hope if you do some research and find something that works for Linux please post it here.

This also might be a helpful Link http://www.gnome.org/

Sorry I couldnt be more help,

Every time I try to download it, I get this:

Image

It quickly downloads in about 2 seconds, but it keeps on downloading, although it says 0. Even as I'm writing this, it still says 0, and isn't finished. I tryed downloading it again, restarting the download, and downloading from different sites, but it still does the same thing. Can any of you explain this? I know this is "runtime', but the same happens with the themes, and any other GTK files.

regimen de caos Im able to download the above file so Im thinking that you might have a security setting that is disabling your downloads... Perhaps try running from location insted of downloading!?! What operating system do you use and internet browser?

killawolf45 Im still looking into you issue also and Im sorry it took so long to reply but I asure Im trying to find a fix! Im thinking something might have changed...

Im sorry but Im at a lose as to what is going wrong... Mine is working perfectly. :a: I will have to contact the author and see what has changed if anything... for those that cant download PM me and I will E-mail it to you if you want as I have permision to do so but ofcorse take no credit for making it.

Also to confirm... People you arent trying to change the themes from Gimp are you? The actual change is in the GTK not Gimp... Gimp runs with the GTK that how the themes are applied.

Awesome, Ive been thinking about this alot and could find anything to explain why mine would work and yours not to other than that you where trying to select a theme from the Gimp program insted of for the GTK+. As I said above the changes accure in GTK not Gimp... thats what the GTK Runtime changes...

killawolf45
Where you able to get your working yet?

regimen de caos
Where you able to get yours downloaded? Im wondering if you Firefox cache was full? I use Firefox also but I mostly use IE but with IE some weird things can happen if the Temp Folder gets full! To clear cache of FireFox try Tools/Options/Privacy/Cache/Clear. I see there is a setting there for how much data it hold so maybe its full?

Well there is saposed to be themes installed with the theme selector... the folder they would be in is "C:\\Program Files\\GTK2-Runtime\\share\\themes" for the GTK Runtime and GTK should have come with some allready installed and they would be here "C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\GTK\\2.0\\share\\themes" let me know if you find themes in either of these foldes...

Ill add also that you can get additional themes here...

http://art.gnome.org/themes/gtk2/

and here...

http://themes.freshmeat.net/browse/958/

To make them work theyll need to be un zipped and put here "C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\GTK\\2.0\\share\\themes" to show up in the theme selector.

I apoligze for the fustration!

OK, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled! This is what I found...

[*] There where no themes in the GTK folder except the default.

[*] You'll ne to download some themes and/or move the ones in the runtime folder "C:\\Program Files\\GTK2-Runtime\\share\\themes" and put then in that GTK folder! "C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\GTK\\2.0\\share\\themes"

This should solve the trouble! :l:

Im not sure, I thought that I got that them wih the GTK+ when I got my Gimp... I notice that @ Mr. Alex Shaduri site there are installers for theme packs and are labeled like this "gtk2-themes-2005-06-18-ash.exe ", this might have been where I found that exact theme but as we just discuverd if you install those themes you will have to find where the install to and if the Dont go to the "C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\GTK\\2.0\\share\\themes" youll have to move theme there.

If you Have trouble finding that exact theme PM me with an E-mail address and Ill mail it to you. Not taking any credit for making it just passing it along :w:

Sorry this was so much trouble for you and I certinly happy that we have been able to get your gimp skinable! :l:

Ill have to add to the tutorial for others to see this because Im sure that this has been a problem for other people tryin to skin there Gimps :a:

Enjoy,
