well. i notice in gimp 2.4 theres an old script that i cant find... on gimp 2.2 it was under: script fu: selection: to brush. it was a default script which i did not install

did it move and i cant find it? is it gone? can i download it onto 2.4?

If you cut/copy and paste anything, it'll automatically become a new brush at the top-left of the list. This may only be in the newest version, though.

Just the usual , check to see if the image has an alpha channel, and that you copied it to memory.
You might even need to have it as a selection.

Make sure what you want to save as a brush is on the clipboard. IOW, it's not enough to just make a selection; you need to press Ctrl-C or from the menu select Edit-Copy.

You must copy the image in gimp,(that means the imagine you want copy should be opened in gimp).
This at least on windows, if you copy from another source the alpha channel (= transparency ) will get lost,and that may be needed by brush
