First of all start with new gimp image, preferably in 300 width and 300 height, pixels. Now follow the steps below [*] Create new layer [*] Fill it with white color (or any other color that you wish to create egg shell with) [*] Select hand drawing region selection / custom region selection tool, as shown below:
[*] Make sure that the new layer we created is selected. [*] Now Keep SHIFT key pressed and make random selections on the layer, by using left mouse button and moving it around, something like shown here:
[*] Distress selection to make the very hsarp edges somehow smooth, by going through menus Script-Fu > Selection > Distress Selection. A new window will appear asking you some settings, do not mess with them, simply press button OK. The selection may change to something as shown here:
[*] Delete selection by pressing Ctrl+K key or going through menu Edit > Clear within image window. You will have soemthing like this:
[*] Remove Selection by going through menu Select > None. [*] Ok skin is done let us move to giving it shperic shape first. Go through menus (within image window) Filters > Map > Map Object. A new window will appear, you simply make sure to select Sphere from drop download list, and check the checkbox labeled Transparent background, as highlighted in following image, and then click button OK
[*] Now your layer must look something similar to following image:
[*] It is time to give it eggg shape finally. Go through menu Filters > Distorts > Curve Bend. A new window will appear, in this window make sure to check the checkbox [X] Automatic Preview just under the preview area (foun on left portion of window). Now you the the right portion of window which is labeled Modify Curves. Simple click in the middle of this portion (you will see a new point is created under your mouse cursor). Simply drag this new black dot (under your mouse pointer) and drop it on the cross right above it, as shown in image below:
And now click hte button OK and the empty broken egg shell is ready. I prefered to rotate at 90 degree CW, by going through menus Layer > Transform > Rotate 90 degrees CW, and got following results, + after ading some shadow + changing color and brightness of shell using colorize too :
I hope you found it interesting. Questions are welcomed. regards |

Great tut ali, i think that i could use this for something, and also i really don't know how this plug in works but i found that using a colored version of the plane image like this *the conversetion filled some spots but still can be seen in this 300x300 image*

Well I tried it and since the sphere is distored to become an egg, the colors and shapes on it get distored too. So my idea has sort of come to a close
You can try to make a basket full of them Ali. I will try but later because I have to go out. |

I didn't know Gateway made eggs (I thought they made only lemons :-b). It might be that your layer (before you did the Ctrl-K) did not have an alpha channel. (If a layer does not have a corresponding alpha channel, its name appears in BOLD in the Layers dialog box.) You can add one by performing a "Layers->Transparency->Add Alpha Channel". |
