Unfortunately the version of ProEngineer I am working with does not allow me to easily capture screen images. I am trying to get assembly-drawing images for use in an MS Word document. If I zoom the ProE drawing so everything is captured by GIMP's screen shot capture tool, I get an image that is very low quality. I can save the drawings as .pdf documents, but I have no good way to get the image into GIMP after that.

I can open the .pdf of the drawing and zoom in and get the detail I would like, but by then the image does not fit on my screen so I cannot get a screen shot.

I have downloaded Ghostscript 8.61 and I have also downloaded gs815w32.exe (placed the exe file in C:\\program files\GIMP 2.4\bin as well as running the exe file and extracting the files to the same folder). I still get an error when I try to open a .pdf

I am not sure what else to try. If anyone has an idea for a better way to do this, I am open to other ideas.

There are two .exe files that you must put in the gimp bin folder. Both of those .exe files are in the gs folder. Do that and see if everything works.

Your steps should be as follows for windows:
1. Install ghostscript
2. In the C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.61\bin (copy both .exe files only)
3. In C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin (paste the files)
4. Run the Gimp and when you go to open the .pdf you should be able to just preview the .pdf before even opening.
Point is if you can preview the .pdf then you can open the .pdf

If you cannot preview a .pdf then you have not done this correctly. Its funny that you say gimp 2.4 because that folder is usually located in the documents and settings and not in the program files.

Hmm...usually, in .pdf documents can't you highlight content and then copy with ctrl+c? You *should* be able to export your image as a .pdf, highlight your image, copy it to the clipboard then open in in Gimp with file>new>paste as new ...dunno, it's worth a shot.

You can also use hoversnap to get some good jpg screenshots.

Another way of introducing a pdf into gimp win (and possbly gimp mac) is by using an online converter from pdf to jpg, png (or tiff, bmp). One such converter, free, is http://convert.neevia.com/
