Find User's Topics

This is probably the longest and best tutorial I've ever made. (40+ layers for full effect) You must be highly experienced with gimp, and using c4d renderes. If not, leave now. You'll need to know how to use layers, feathering, smudging, and some more effects. If you haven't been using Gimp for atleast a month, then this will be very hard to follow, well good luck, and I hope you enjoy.

Outcome:

Image

First off, get a gradient that matches the render you are going to use.
Image

Secondly, go to lighting effects Gflare, defualt, and play around with the effects until you get that below. Once you have one, duplicate it, and flip it to the other side.
Image

Get your render, and duplicate it four times. (The shadow came with the render for my render.)
Image

Grab a very nice smudge brush that you enjoy using for smudging, put the rate on 70, and smuge the top layer. Once smudged everywhere, put that layer on screen. Then, with the layer below that one, smudge softly, but atleast smudge some, with the same or differernt brush (I used a different one.) Set this to overlay. After that we need to smudge once again on the layer below that one. (third render layer) Smudge as much as possible ONLY on the edges of the render, once smudged set it to overlay at 40% opacity.
Image

Get your final render layer and grab the lasso tool, and lasso around the edge of the render, only around the edge. Leave some space on the edge of the render, though. Once lassoed, hit control i, then feather it between 20-35. Once feathered, take it away. You should have a very nicely blended render.
Image

*Optional, if it is too blended, copy the feathered layer. I did not do that.

Add c4ds around the wings (in most cases arms). Set these to dodge, softlight, or screen. Or a mixture of all of them! You can also color them to match the render and background, or you can desaturate them. (I did both.) You need to add atleast 2-4 c4ds, I used two. Copy each c4d on each side of the wings. Smudge these c4ds. Then set the smudged layer to what looks the best. Once smudged, you may copy them again and resmudge and relayer them for a better effect. (I did this but lowered the opacity by quite a bit once I finished)
Image

Now, once you are finished adding c4ds around the wings, add more of them in any open space, and set the coloring and layering to what you like. I think I used dodged, and copied them again to a 50% soft light opacity. Once I finished I ended up with about 10 smudged/c4d layers.
Image

Now, get another gradient map, light and dark colors.
Image

Set this layer at 30% soft light.

Gradient map again, two dark colors.
Image

Soft Light, 75% opacity, or what looks best.

Yup, you guessed it! Gradient map again, lol. This time use about the same colors as the first, just mixing up the shades a bit.
Image

Set that layer to soft light, 40%.
Image

Add text, I used Arial at 12.
Image

Move the text around, and add effects to the text, then add a border. All done!!
Image

My other outcome:

Please, if you decide to use this tutorial, I would love to see your results, because I spent a whole lot of time making this tutorial, and a whole lot of time perfecting it.

I love that effect. Im going to give it a go on my next day off. You could apply this effect to most styles of sig. not necessarily anime/game

Well, he did state that this isn't very beginner friendly. Anyone with a little experience knows how to add a border.

Lol, Spanky knows how to do them! He means for other people, I believe!

C4d=Abstract Renderse, you can get a couple here.

http://www.pimpmysig.com/showgallery.php/cat/727

I take no credit at all for making those c4d renders.

Yeah I know, I'm just saying that a beginner shouldn't tackle this one and only a beginner wouldn't know how to add a border. I'll post my results later. Great tut, btw.

I have a feeling it's too hard for most users here. I tried it, but for some reason I couldn't get the Gflare to look good. It looked sorta like a supernova with a lens flare on...
