I'm new at GIMP and was reading a tutorial here that instructed you to run a script from Images/Script-Fu in the main image window. I don't even have Script-Fu under images. Is it because I'm using it on Windows? Can you use scripts if you're running under Windows?

Older versions had a menu item called Scrip-Fu......all this changed with Version 2.4....

These scripts are now located under Filters, or Colors or elsewhere as directed by scrip revisions.......

If you download the 100+ scripts from Foundry FX they will be located as above along with a new Foundry FX menu....

Thanks! I found Foundry FX and installed them. Is there any way to see a preview of these and the other effects while you work, so you can tell what adjusting the different sliders is going to do before hitting ok? I'm used to being able to preview as I adjust but don't see a way to do that.

And is there a way to save your settings as a preset?

I had a similar problem myself with GIMP for windows. Some of the script fu's that are under filters I cannot find anymore. Like disstress selection. I do have it in my script folder and I know it is there, but I just cannot find it in GIMP.

distress selection missing..............?????????
Well it is under the Select Menu as Distort......alive and well......

I also had the script which seems to be directed to Select/Modify but does not exist....so I renamed the ScriptFu name and relocated it under Filters...and it comes up as Distort...it had not been updated to version 2.4......but, in other words, we don't need it any more....it must now be incorporated in a plugin....

Thanks willgoss. I was looking high and low for the scripts location.
As I said though, I know it wasn't missing as it was in my script folder. But as you said, yes it does appear to be under Select -> Distort.

This is what annoys me with the new 2.4 version on Windows (I don't know if this is the same case with Linux or MAC users). Most of the script-fus are now mixed in with the filters or colour menus. You have different types of script-fus:

Standalone Script-Fus which are found in Xtns (in the toolbox menu.
Image-dependent scripts which are found in either Colours or Filters (in the image menu)

This Foundry FX....are they not included with GIMP 2.4.5? Is it worth the download? Also, once I download it where do I put it?

Not are not included

About be worthy there are many useful script inside, maybe there are too much scripts inside (is a bit hard browse between 100 extra scripts) but then you are not forced to install all of them, you may try and then preserve that scripts you found more useful and move away the other

To find scripts quickly, click Xtns in the main toolbox window and select Plugin Browser. You can type an important word in the plugin name into the search box and you will be shown where under the menus the script can be found.
