If this has been done before... my bad, sorry, but I didnt see it and I thought someone out there would appreciate it.

I am about to teach you how to make a sig I like to call the Pixel Sig... Its very easy and isnt hard to make.. perfect for new people to GIMP.
Just so you know what you're about to make....:
Image
Now that you know what's to come.... here I go!

Make an image 400x150, white background.
First, you want to take a brush, I used Zhennu3-10 from deviant art( I got it so long ago I dont remember from where) You can use a whole set but for this technique it doesnt matter since the end product doesnt look alot like the brush.
Image

Then go to Layer>Colors> Then either colorize or color balance.I use color balance.
Play around with the settings until you like what you see. I came out with this.
Image

Then, to Filter>Blur>Pixelize, and set it to 5x5.
Image
Your sig should now look something like this:
Image
When thats done, open a new image, 5x5(yes, 5x5)
Take your 1x1 circle brush, and make a black cross in the center of the square. To make it easier, zoom all the way in.
Image
Its so small cause its only 5x5, but I hope you can tell what its supposed to be like. Save it as Pixel Pattern.pat, or whatever you want it to be(but make sure it has .pat at the end), since its gonna be a homemade pattern. Then, your gonna get the pattern you just saved, and put it into C:/Program Files/Gimp 2.0(or whatever your gimp folder is)/share/gimp/2.0/patterns. Just cut and paste it. Then save everything youve been working on, and shut down GIMP. restart it, open back up your pixel sig, and go use your bucket fill tool to fill your sig with your new pattern! Set the opacity down on it a little bit though, I would say around 27-29, for a better effect.(I had 29.8)
Image
Then, add text using Filters>Text>Freetype, and use a font of your choice(I used sell your soul, from http://www.dafont.com), and your done! You could add a render, but I chose not to this time, to make it more simple.
Image
Also the border... forgot about that part sorry guys... (at least im doing this before I get flamed). Really easy if you dont know how... but go to Script-Fu>Decor>Add Border, thickness either 1 or 2.

Please comment on my first tutorial, and please show me what you did with this too!

yeah. I totally did not know you could do that, and I've been using GIMP for quite a while. But hey, 24 hours isn't that bad. I posted a great tutorial that was eventually moved to Official Tutorials and that didn't get a reply for three days. It's at http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/Deep-space-Pics-5021-1.html

Pretty solid tut... don't like the outcome, but that's just personal preference.

Nice work; here's my result:
