This is my first ever tutorial, hope it helps!

We will be making this in the tutorial


First start a new project 370x150 pixels.
Then select a brush (go to http://www.deviantart.com/ and search GIMP brushes)
Then when you install it (go to search on your computer and search Brushes, then drag the brush file inside it) Select it by double-clicking the brush button on the toolbar.Then select Brush and choose your new brush. Then brush all around, be sure not to drag the mouse around, just keep clicking in the places you want brushed. You should end up with something like this: (I used The brush abgrunge, I used the whole set)


Then go to Layers>Colorize and mess with the settings how you want. I ended up with this:


Now find the render (image) and right click it and click save as, then save it to your desktop. Then open it in paint and select everything you want in the sig. Then hold Control+C. Close paint and open your signature up. Go to Layers>New layer.Make sure its white. hold controll+L and make sure your new layer is selected. Then hold control+V. maximize your gimp project and zoom in 2 or 3 times.Then select the box select tool and position your render just right.


Then go to layers>anchor layer. Then select the paths tool. Create a path around the render where you want to cut it out.

then double-click the paths tool and click create selection from path.
Then hold control+i, then hold control+k.You should get this:

then select another tool (to get rid of the path) and go to select>none. Then add any text.
zoom out and make any changes you want, such as add a border. Then save it, upload it, and there you have it!

May I suggest you save it as a png, and blend the render? It looks fuzzy as a jpg.

I would love to save as png, but I got in the habit of saving as jpg (lowers the file size, website I make sigs on have a 50kb sig limit >.>) sorry, any future tuts will be png.

Yeah render blending would be nice... And not .jpg....

good tutorial. may i ask what brushe you used?

I don't really like this tutorial, sorry. All you told us to do was grab some brushes and brush, colorize then to add a render. You didn't give tips on blending the render, text placement tips, etc.

Personally, my favourite way to cut out a render with the paths tool is fenceposts method. It's faster and cleaner. It's nice, but I'd like to see more done with the text.

The render part was kind of hard to follow...so I just did it my own way lol
