Hope you like this tutorial :h:
It now can be downloaded at deviantart

1.Open a 3pixel x 3pixel transparent background
Image
2.Goto view zoom 1600%
Image
3. Select your pencil tool and select the smallest circle brush you should have it because it comes with gimp and make this pattern
Image
Also make these patterns as well using steps above you will have different looking grids
Image
after your done making a grid save as pattern and put it in your Gimp patterns folder and your done
and you should have stuff like this
Image
Image
Also to use these scanlines you have to select your clone tool and then select pattern source and you pick one of the scan lines you just made make a new trans layer and brush away the bigger the brush the faster you will get done
Image
Remember always make a new trans layer above or below the image you want scanlines on never put them on the image you can if you want but if you make a mistake you there goes your image or background

I find it easier to use <Filters - Distorts - Video> and choose something from there.

You get a pattern by using the clone tool, set to "pattern source", pick a brush any brush, then brush them on a new layer. He put it right there as the last step.

Simpler? The only other way that I have seen is by using the Distorts way(Which is only good for diagonal-right lines). Please enlighten us.

Or just bucket fill with a pattern. Saves you all that brushing.

It is the best tutorial I have ever read. It teaches you to fish. It does not give you the fish.

You can do this 2 different ways.
You can either go to Script-Fu>selection>to Pattern or you can save it as a .pat file and put it in your pattern folder.
