I was using Gimp 2.0.5 (or .6, I'm not positive) and had no problems. A little while ago I attempted to upgrade to 2.2.8, but ran into a problem where Gimp would "Encounter an error and need to close" whenever I opened a new file, opened an existing file, sometimes created a new layer, sometimes saved a file, and sometimes completely unpredictably. I could almost never get though the complete creation of an image without Gimp crashing at least once.

Needless to say I downgraded back to the 2.0 line, and everything was ok.

Now I tried to upgrade to 2.2.10, since as it said it was a bugfix release I was hopeful. Unfortunately...no. I start it up, go to File -> New, click OK, and boom - Gimp has encountered an error and needs to close.

Does anyone else have this problem? It's amazingly consistent and I can't imagine I'm the only one who's having it. Is there a way to fix it? There's whole bunches of new Script-Fu scripts out there that I'm dying to try, but they almost all require 2.2.8 or higher, and that's seeming more unattainable by the minute.

Thanks!

Hmm..I didn't, because I'm afraid of breaking Gaim... I'll give it a shot this afternoon though, once I don't need to use IM for work anymore, and see what happens.

You were right :-) Upgrading Gtk+ seems to have done the trick, for which I am eternally grateful. And best of all, Gaim doesn't appear to show any signs of breaking either.

Thanks so much!
