We’ll be creating this:

Image

After creating a new document, open up a nice chaoscope render that fills the canvas, and paste it as the background layer. The quality of the render doesn’t matter here, though high quality is always better.

Create a new layer and fill it with black, then set the opacity to a value between 60-90, depending on what looks best. You don’t want much showing through; just enough to give the background texture without detracting from the darkness.

Image

Open up a monotone gas fractal, and rotate it to match the natural lines of your background. If you haven’t already made your fractals transparent, use the colour to alpha tool, set to black. Reduce the transparency of this layer to a value between 40-70 and stare in wonderment as the basis of the signature already begins to take form.

Image

Repeat the last step with another render.

Image

Paste a colourful render into a new layer, and set the opacity to 10%, with the mode on screen. Repeat with another render. Don’t be afraid to rotate if the render doesn’t match the flow as much as you’d like.

Image

Desaturate a solid render with a lot of direction, set it to overlay, and rotate it to match the current signature.

Image

As a simple enhancement, copy visible and paste as a new layer. Set this layer to dodge, with an opacity of around 30%

Image

Once again, desaturate a solid render, transform it as necessary and set it to overlay.

Image

Repeat with a gas render.

And again.

Repeat with a gas render that has a lot of lines, but set it to screen. You might need to reduce the opacity slightly.

Image

Copy visible and paste into a new layer. Pick a fairly dark purple colour and a fairly light yellow one, and use the gradient map filter. Set this layer to hue, then duplicate it and set it to colour, with an opacity of around 80%

Image

Grab your background render, duplicate it, move the duplicate to the top of the layers and set it to an overlay of 10%

Create another layer and, with a fairly large soft circle brush, brush once at the point you want to be most focal. With a smaller brush set to 70% smudge in the direction of your abstract. Set this layer to overlay.

Image

Set a violet-tinted solid render to overlay, and move it so that it matches the flow of the tag. Repeat, but lower the opacity to 30%

Image

Copy visible, sharpen by about 16, duplicate and guassian blur by 3 pixels. Set the new layer to lighten only. If this setting creates lines on the signature, set it to normal at 30% opacity and use the same colour to alpha as you did before.

Image

Duplicate the blurred layer, blur it again by 40 px, then use a gradient map of dark blue and light green. Set it to hue at 20% opacity.

Image

To create a slight mist, soft brush around where you want the mist in white and use the cubism filter. Set it to 30% opacity.

Image

Create a simple border and some text et viola.

A monotone gas fractal is a fractal created using Chaoscope that uses the 'gas' settings with no modification to the gradient.

Oooh, smart!

Just a little Chaoscope tip I picked up from curly: If you want a smoother looking render, make the canvas size three times larger than you normally would, then scale it down by three in GIMP.

I like the fractal noiuse in yours though; it makes it look sparkly.

Very nice technique. :h: I may post my results if I can ever get around to making some.

You may want to put a link to the Chaoscope website somewhere in your tut, though. Some people may have trouble understanding what you mean by "Chaoscope render." Just a thought.

nice tut, mine didn't turn out so well because chaoscape is a gamble lol sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not.

but anyways, my result:

Image

I tweaked it a bit, so it's a different kind of outcome.

TheGremp, yours is pretty cool, especially with the other stuff in the background.

I'm gonna try this tutorial soon, it's a great tutorial.
