Hi guys. Today, we are going to learn how to make animated userbars. This is usefull if you have more than one userbar and want to display them in the same image. The end result will look like this.

Image

There is no limit to the amount of images you can animate.

Image

OK, firstly, we need a userbar. If you haven't got some you can make your own. I have made a tutorial with all the information you will ever need to know. You can view it here.

Once you have made some, open 1 up in The GIMP. Make sure you only open one, this is important.

Image

Then go to, File ---> Open as Layer . . .

Image

Select your other userbar and hit OK. What this does is open the userbar as a layer. Look, you can see the two userbars as seperate layers in my layer window.

Image

Keep doing this to you have opened all the userbars you want to include in your animation. When you have done, go to File ---> Save as . . .

Image

Save it as, "Userbars.gif". It is important to include the .gif, without this, the animation will not work. A window, will appear. Put in these settings.

Image

Click "Export".

A new window will appear. Put in these settings.

Image

Click OK.

You have now animated your userbars. Nothing to it really.

That's pretty much the only animation you can do in gimp.

No! Of course not! This is the most basic in The GIMP.

Indeed flamed is wrong! It just takes a long time, and i'm talking about animating it without GAP.

What you do is duplicate each userbar layer 3-4 times (depends how smooth you want the animation) Then with the first duplicated layer blur it a little, with the second blur it more, with the third blur it loads.

userbar 2 (1000ms)
userbar 2 slightly blurred (200ms)
userbar 2 average blur (200ms)
userbar 2 very blurred (200ms)
userbar 1 very blurred (200ms)
userbar 1 average blur (200ms)
userbar 1 slightly blurred (200ms)
userbar 1 (1000ms)
etc.

That's what your layers dialog might look like. (of course you don't have to blur, it was just an example, you could scroll it off the edge with the second one underneath it etc.)

There's probably a more straightforward way but that's how i'd go about it. :h:

I'm sure most of you know, but you can get a much better animation with GAP... for example you can morph the images... :h:

Nah, Imageready doesn't have the same kind of 'coolness' about it. I'm gonna stick with GIMP and GAP . . .

You can still make some great animation with layers. You don't need GAP for all animation. Just works better for different kinds. Like if i'm replacing text with other text, then i'd use layers, but if i'm moving something around i'd use GAP. Nice tutorial even know I knew that already :w:

1000 milliseconds is far too short. 1.5-2 seconds minimum, I didn't have time to properly read most of the bars.

I thought he meant that's the only animation HE can do in GIMP, refering to his level or something ... well my interpretation.

Edit: oops just read it again ..... ignore this post
