Post subject:  The GIMPTalk Biweekly Art Competition

Welcome to the GIMP Talk Biweekly Art Competition!

This is your chance to try your digital art skills against your fellow GIMP Talkers!

Current Round: #025 - Theme: "Feeling Crowded" / Deadline: Saturday the 28th of August, 2:00 AM GMT

How Does the Contest Work?

Every other Monday, I will announce the start of the new round, along with the theme and deadline. After all entries are in, a voting thread will be made and linked to here. Entries should correspond to theme, so pay attention!

How do I enter?

When your entry is finished, provide in this thread a link to the artwork. Only one competing entry per person, so if you post multiple images, be sure to specify which is your final entry!

What media can I use?

Digital GIMP work is the preferred media, though traditional media may be used as long as GIMP was a significant part of the workflow, such as coloring a line drawing, etc.

What can my image contain?

Submitted images must consist ENTIRELY of original artwork. This means that fan art is permitted, but the use of "renders," "c4D's," stock images, or anything of the sort (that were not created by the entrant) is strictly unallowed!

Does my image have to be a painting or line drawing?

Not necessarily. It can be a montage, a matte painting, a "vexel," or anything else, as long as all content, including stock photos, was created by you. Just don't submit plain photos; that's photography, not digital art.

Can I submit an old artwork that fits the theme?

Please submit only artwork that was created for the contest.

I have an idea for a theme; can I submit it for use?

Sure! If you have an idea, send it to me through PM with the title, "Art Comp Theme."

Why is my image not in the winners gallery? What have I done to deserve this?!!

Sorry, that just means I haven't gotten around to updating it.

Ok, there's a slight change of plans. From now on, all announcements and entries will be posted here, and only voting will take place in separate threads.

So, without further ado:

#003 - Theme: "morning"

Deadline: Friday the 12th, 9:00 PM GMT-5

Post subject:  Re: The GIMPTalk Biweekly Art Competition

Neat, people should have an easier time coming up with ideas to the "morning" theme than for "beginning" and "disbelief".

You should probably update the first post with the theme and time frame as well though, so people can see it at a glance. As time goes on, your new posts will end up way down in the thread after all. :)

Hi, This is mine for this week.
I tried to capture the harsh Australian Morning sunlight on the Gum trees. Gum trees have all sorts of colours, from deep purple to salmon pink and white.
I did this from scratch on my wacom tablet.

If you want to see what a real artist does with Gumtrees , "Google" Hans Heysen or Albert Namatjira

here's mine, but I may change/edit it later. I assume using default GIMP brushes is permitted?

Haha, that's about as pure of a GIMP entry as you can get.

Question, I want to submit a photo-edited picture, is that ok? Question #2 Can the original be taken by my parents? Thanks.

Post subject:  Re: The GIMPTalk Biweekly Art Competition

Hmm. That'll be OK for this round, since I did mention matte paintings and the use of stock photos, but now I think I should prohibit the use of photography at all from the contest. Only because, when you think about it, a guy with a camera has a bit of an unfair advantage over a guy with limited painting skills. I'll edit the rules come the next round. :)

I probably should have made it bigger, but it looked uglier because of the indexed colors

Image

It's simple, but it's all I have time for right now :)

If the whole number blinked the effect would be more natural imho... other than that, great!

I haven't been around too much lately, since I've been settling in at college... but I managed to find the time for this.

Notice:

Piginste1n and Sydney's entries to this round disappeared (I've PM'ed them, so by the time you see this they both may be fixed), and both were hosted on Image Ox. In case this would happen again, try to host contest entries with a site other than Image Ox, at least until we know that whatever problem there might be is fixed.
