I'm not overly keen on the result, though I think it may have looked better if I'd used a ryu sprite doing a hadoken.

Its easy put a layer filled whit the color of your choice and then select any good layer option and then Put them together (or take copy visible and paste).

Actually, you can make the Sparks brush a different colour. Make the foreground and background colours on the pallette both the same colour, then select the sparks brush and tick the box below the brush selection place so that colour is taken from the gradient. Brush, and voila, the sparks brush will be a different colour. :h: Great tut, btw.

Make new layer above sparks fill it with desired color and set layer mode to color/overlay/grain merge wichever looks best
