Palms (another forum a frequent) linked me to a cool site that uses Amazing Circles to create Amazing Droplets and other glassy things. I used that info to create this seamless texture (Darla's Amazing Circle script-fu was used). Also used Mathmap Sphere and some lighting effects (Supernova) for the resulting Sphere. :)

Same technique can be used to make metallics too. I created the individual tile, ran it though G'MIC Polar filter and the Mehdi's Kaleidscope to create the intricate seamless tile (had a Mother of Pearl background to use as the base which I also darkened). :)

Thanks for the comments PC; hope you like Bocce Balls too.

Also, thought I should make a metal ringed bauble too. :)

yes i do like :!: :) Both

the only problem i see in the first sphere (in first message ) is that the ball is empty so you are supposed to see also the back side

And i do see but then i am not totally convinced of the prospective

Yeah; I agree with you that's why I used the whirl and pinch (no whirl) on the backside of the metallic ring version to make it look smaller in the back. The more you play, the more you learn for sure. :)

Just taking the interlocking to a new level. Man I like the Plasticwrap Script-fu.

Image

Also used the texture for this caged glass interpretation (sorry job at creating the vase though; lol). :)

Maybe one day, when 3D printers become cheaply available, maybe you can just print this pattern out and get your attic done right PC. lol

Also appreciate the comments Oregonian.

Forgot (as going to post these earlier, but the site was down and when I actually was able to do so, forgot to add the instructions) to explain how I was able to turn the round to square. What I did was do and X/2, Y/2 wrap and then run Whirl and Pinch (a few times; no angle of course; just the pinch part) till I got it square. Pretty cool. Still havent figured out how to do triangles yet, but I will. :)

Feel free PC. Anything that I am willing to post online I consider public domain unless I say otherwise. I figure GIMP is open source so why not things that I post. lol

I believe in sharing and then learning. That's how I figured out GIMP over the years. I did modify Darla's Script (no easy task since I'm clueless w.r.t. Script-fu; can't share since I didn't get permision to do so; just for my benifit) so that transparency stays intact (makes the loops easier to do instead of having to select the center white color and delete which was driving me crazy). :)

The secret for making the golden rings tileable is Mehdi's Kaleidoscope filter (at least for this one). :)

Well that tile was really addictive i could not stop for hours

first i tweak it

Image

then i extended by mirroring

Image

And then some color, and a dup of the same layer offsetted to create to add some (fake)3D complexity

Image

But then something else popped...A flower Power remix

Image

Some art deco remix

Image

Something more esoteric (soory for the ugly black spots ...that are transparent on the original at bigger size here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocomix ... 7/sizes/o/ )

Image

A cool rhombus

Image

And playing with my favorite color trick (find a cool gradient + Gradient map + Edit/Fade/Color mode ) a tribal version

Image

Forgotten Alchemical Symbols (maybe from Atlantis ? )

Image

And using the last as tile..a bigger tile for the floor of some old but wealthy Hippy

Image

PS bigger size in png at http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocomix_mandala
to bad that flickr replace with black the transparency and that screw up everything except then "original size" view

EDIT

I forgot one of the best the original is quite too big (2650 x2650 ...and 5MB ) but this resized copy may give the idea

OOPSS wrong link...let try again...

Image

Just in case you have to build a Cathedral , you may use for the windows... :D

#########################################################################

thank there are more here http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocomix_mandala/
I did not upload them because the scaled version are screwed up (Flickr replace transparency with black in the resized version ) and the original png too big and heavy for GT (or for screen with less then 1280 as height )

The spheres and the egg have some defect (=the line were the 2 hemisphere meet is visible and created a nasty discontinuity
i notice only too late for a quick fix ...was trivial rotate the sphere to hide that discontinuity )
