The first one is really the best one due to the bright warm colours. The others come out fine, but personally I think their colour tones are too "cold", this technique enhances the image, makes it a bit surreal and strong colours help that even further.

Lol, I think you get this question for every image in this style you post eh, Photocomix? I know you have summed up the process in many previous posts, but don't you think a regular Tutorual would be nice nevertheless, so you can link to it if nothing else? ;)

Right, but i found so frustrating see all my tutorials(including the last was on a very similar technique ) sink in no time to the bottom pages and never reemerge

Require much more time and effort explain something new and original then "translate" a PS tutorial, or add few screenshoot to some routine already well described in the gimp help...

Originality require much more time and give no much satisfaction till now :( so i don't know when i will find the mood to try again with a tutorial

Can you at least tell us what the major tweaks were, filters used?

@Photocomix
Sorry to hear that. :(
Your tutorial comic-fx had got plenty of replies though I think (before it was taken down)? There seems to certainly be an interest in it, so I suspect more people would visit it if you linked to it. Is there a problem re-uploading the images?

@2-ton
I guess Photocomix' tutorial above shows off similar effects as this one, but he took it offline for maintenance (the images where down). Also since he didn't ŕefer to it for this, maybe it's not quite the same procedure. The tutorial used the the greystoration filter at least.

I had just renewed my subscription to flickr so image should be restored in few time.

And anyway i promise also to myself to polish that tutorial so for this week end will be ready at least in the usual form (i planned to do a Video tut, but my sound card seems no able to accept input from microphone  but only output music)

2-ton

Sure i may, but the point is not much which filter used but how found the right setting

This was the first routine i try:

1 Duplicate the layer

2Filter/Artistic/Photocopy
(first enlarge the preview box how much you can, then lower the value of the first and last value , quite close to the minimum
point is get most of details, a good amount of grain, and a not too blanck image)

3 use now Grycstoration, again preview box has to be maximized .
"Contour preservation has to be lowered, "noise Amount" increased to the point of blur the image
Then "Asinotropy" has to be pushed almost to maximum, that will sort of "refocus" the image giving neat outline but smearing all noise
..you should look the preview to find right point

4 change mode of duplicate layer in soft light

A )usually that is sufficient, is the effect is too soft duplicate again the layer.
AND/OR
B )Is effect whiten too much the image, duplicate again but this time set the duplicate in multiply mode, lowering is opacity as needed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For this last series i used a variations

1 ) G'MIC Toolbox (is a new filter, include also greycstoration ) in G'MIC toolbox Artistic/pencil drawing
Again maximize preview, you want a "pencil drawing" more detailed possible,

2 ) now a little disturbance, that GMIC filter has a bug so instead then modify the active layer will create a new image.
Copy/paste as new layer over the original,

3) again change layer mode to soft light

and again is the effect is too soft duplicate again the layer.
And/OR
If effect whiten too much the image, duplicate again but this time set the duplicate in multiply mode, lowering is opacity as needed

But the basic point is judging the preview
1 all details visible and net in the B&W layer (in both case : photocopy+greycstoration or GMIC "pencil drawing") will be..sharpened and bumped
All the rest will add texture or in case of Greycstoration a sort of brushstroke.

Again for the week end should be ready

I really like the effect, also helped by the choice of subject material. Have to figure out how to do that sometime. Nice work, enjoyable, thanks

Very nice work. I think the colorful images in particular really benefit, though the animals ended up with some really unusual facial details that I liked as well.

Thanks for sharing!
